‘The Second Plane’ — what a fantastic title. It identifies a phrase in the English language that we all know and understand yet it is not a cliché.
Having said that, the pressure must have been on the publishers to come up with an image that wasn’t obvious, over-used or disrespectful. They have succeeded in creating an cover that is surprisingly subtle yet immensely powerful at the same time. The reversed out colours play tricks on our eyes and make us look afresh at an image that we have all seen a thousand times.
Very clever.
