There is no denying that this is a good book that has sold well and been awarded and lauded. But the cover is terrible. It adds absolutely nothing to the title and is incredibly dull. Worse than that, their only attempt at creating a point of interest (the depiction of the red rose on the door) is completely lost against the red background.
Its only saving grace is that the slab of red gives it good standout on the shelf. Given that the title means nothing to someone who hasn’t read the book, this is a cover that relies too much on the fame of the author to carry it and the publishers have made little effort to use the cover to draw newcomers into her readership.
